Just as all good thing must come to an end, so too must bad things.
I have completed cancer treatment and by all measures things are going well.
Presuming there are no nasty surprises lurking in the future, I am cured. Of course it’s too early to presume that, but I can hope.
Though I continue having minor challenges breaking in the new stomach, these seem too inconsequential to warrant a blog post.
I have decided end the blog with this post.
Once again, I would like to thank all of you who have stood by us during this ordeal.
I can never tell you how important this has been for us.
Thank you.
Hi Gary,
Hope you are doing great, just saw your blog.
Just wanted to know how are you doing now?, My father has just underwent Total Gastrectomy Surgery and waiting to receive Chemotherapy but my father is aged 66 and diabetic its very tough for this to manage after total removal of stomach and we were told on biopsy of 5cm tumor, that its stage 3A. I appreciate to hear from you as it will add great support to us in this very crucial situation
Best Regards,
Fareed
I am doing very well. It has been two years since my surgery and the cancer has not spread. It appears I am cured.
I feel strong and healthy. In fact, in some ways I feel healthier than before the cancer treatment. My weight is down to a healthy 170 pounds and I exercise daily. Eating is sometimes still a challenge, but it totally manageable.
Your father is about to go through the most difficult part of treatment. It will be rough going for awhile but it will get better. Recovery from the surgery and final chemo is very slow and frustrating, but eventually it will be over and life will return to normal. In fact, in some ways it will be better than it was before the treatment because he will have a new appreciation for what it means to be alive and healthy.
My prayers are with you.
